James Bennett M.D
J. Michael Bennett, M.D.
specializes in sports medicine, arthroscopy, and general orthopedic surgery with a special interest in disorders of the shoulder, elbow, and knee.
Dr. Bennett is a native of Houston, Texas, and a graduate of Episcopal High School. In 1993 he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Zoology. In 1999 he graduated with a Medical Doctorate from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky. In 2000, Dr. Bennett returned to Texas to complete a year of General Surgery Internship at Baylor College of Medicine followed by an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the same institution, which he completed in 2004. During residency, Dr. Bennett was honored by his fellow residents with the Baylor Department of Orthopedic Surgery Award for Excellence in Resident Teaching.
Following residency, Dr. Bennett completed a Sports Medicine, Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship at UHZ Sports Medicine Institute at the University of Miami. While in Florida, he served as assistant team physician to the University of Miami Hurricanes, the Florida International University Golden Panthers, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in addition to team physician for the Dade County Independent School District.
Throughout his residency and fellowship Dr. Bennett gained a vast amount of experience in covering a variety of sports including football, soccer, basketball, baseball, and lacrosse. He currently serves as a team physician for Texas Southern University and the Houston Independent School District. Dr. Bennett has a particular interest in arthroscopic and open treatment of shoulder, elbow, and knee disorders as well as cartilage repair and restoration.
Dr. Bennett has been involved in orthopedic research, and has a number of presentations and publications to his credit, with several papers pending publication. He continues to participate in ongoing research, and is a member of the following societies:

- American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM)
- Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA)
- Harris County Medical Society
- International Society of Knee Surgery, Arthroscopy, and Orthopedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS)
- Texas Medical Association
Dr. Bennett holds staff appointments at Texas Orthopedic Hospital, Methodist Hospital Sugar Land, Memorial Hermann Fort Bend Hospital, and The Methodist Hospital.
